Artist statemant
The works of Melanie Balsam-Parasole are small-format and yet expansive. Minimalist and mostly strictly geometrical in form. Flowing application of paint and irregularly running colour surfaces break up this formal austerity. Colour as a subversive force that finds its own way within the given and creates space itself. Colour and space have the same meaning – together they form a whole.
The spatial pictorial bodies are supported by the white wall and yet at the same time set in tension with the surrounding space. The colour is not limited to the picture body, but extends the pictorial space beyond the boundaries of the object.
